'An Idiot Abroad' to stage Sky 1 HD channel takeover to celebrate third season
To celebrate the return of Sky 1 HD’s ‘An Idiot Abroad’ the channel will be staging an Idiot takeover from Monday 26 November.
For the third season Ricky Gervais has persuaded Karl Pilkington to embark on another epic journey, this time following in the footsteps of famous explorer Marco Polo travelling from Italy to China. This time, Gervais’ friend Warwick Davis is also going along to keep Pilkington company. In the lead up to the launch every Sky 1 HD ident and piece of channel branding will feature the two explorers.
Sky Creative Agency worked on the series of idents with Pilkington and Davis, the first set of idents will be in the traditional Sky1 HD format with Pilkington and Davis interacting behind the channel logo with a voiceover from series narrator, David de Keyser. The idents include Pilkington riding a bike with Davis in the basket, Davis up-staging Pilkington with a ladder, and Davis having some fun in a panda suit.
The second set comprises of short clips of Pilkington and Davis talking about their journey.
Stuart Murphy, director, Sky Entertainment Channels, commented: “While the clever may see Karl as an idiot, the stupid among us see him as a genius. And so I am delighted to dedicate a week of Sky 1 to this genius’s ramblings.”
Creative director at Sky Creative, Kenny Reynolds, added: “Our bespoke idents for 'An Idiot Abroad 3' are sure to build excitement and further anticipation for the return of one our customers’ favourite shows. Each has been produced with improvisation from both Karl and Warwick, keeping true to the show and giving viewers an early look at this globe-trotting double act in action.”
The third season of ‘An Idiot Abroad’ airs on Sky 1 HD at 9pm on Friday 30 November.
