Filmed with Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro, ‘Huracán Ramírez vs. La Piñata Enchilada’ follows a retired luchador who saves his city from a possessed piñata.

Winners take all the candy in Apple Mexico’s new short film that demonstrates the iPhone 14 Pro’s cinematography chops.

‘Huracán Ramírez vs. La Piñata Enchilada,’ which premiered today, is a 15-minute film. It opens in what appears to be a family-owned piñata shop, where an elderly man instructs his jaded teenage grandson to complete the day’s orders. When the boy substitutes sugar for chile powder, he accidentally conjures a demonic piñata on a mission to terrorize the city.

With a killer candy container on the loose, city officials enlist the only local hero fit for the job: Huracán Ramírez, a long-retired luchador. The two take their match to an Aztec temple, where after a suspenseful battle, Ramírez dives into the beast’s cavity head-first, creating a candy explosion of epic proportions.

When translated from Spanish to English, the campaign’s landing page says the iPhone 14 camera boasts “incredible enhancements,” “industry standard features” and more, thus “putting a Hollywood studio in [users’] hands.”

To illustrate this, the film’s cinematography is dynamic enough to have viewers doubting whether or it was filmed strictly on an iPhone. Much of the film was shot in low-light conditions, with wide-angle compositions and depitcts characters in high-stakes fight scenes.

‘Huracán Ramírez vs. La Piñata Enchilada’ marks Apple Mexico’s first ‘Shot on iPhone’ film. The campaign series, which dates back to March 2015, aims to show off the iPhone’s camera capabilities and is led by creative agency TBWA Media Arts Lab.
