One Direction and Ed Sheeran prove more influential on Twitter than Prime Minister David Cameron
The members of One Direction are each more influential through Twitter than Prime Minister David Cameron, according to the Peerindex Influence Index.
The third annual PeerIndex of top Twitter users, analysed over 10 billion tweets from 150 million active users of Twitter to decipher who in the UK had the largest influence. All users based-outside of the UK were filtered out before patterns of influence on Twitter were then monitored to context score Tweeters who demonstrated an influence over UK users.
The top five on the resulting table (see gallery) were the members of One Direction; Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Nial Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik respectively, while sixth on the list was another musician, Ed Sheeran.
“We focused only on whether other people in the UK were responding to, retweeting or engaging with a Tweeter.” commented a spokesperson for PeerIndex, who added that the number of follwers was not a factor in the weighting.
The rest of the top 10 was made up of Prime Minister David Cameron, Piers Morgan, Caitlin Moran and Ricky Gervais, respectively.
