Ricky Gervais beats Caitlin Moran, Stephen Fry and David Cameron to be named most influential Twitter user in London
Ricky Gervais is the most influential Twitter user in London, research from PeerIndex has found, as it unveils its list of the top 100 most influential people in the capital city.
Writer Caitlin Moran came second on the list, with Made in Chelsea stars Lucy Watson and Jamie Laing, along with singer Ed Sheeran, making the top five.
Stephen Fry, Arsenal players Mesut Özil and Jack Wilshere, journalist Owen Jones and David Cameron complete the top 10.
Ed Milliband placed in at 20, while TV presenter Jon Snow came in 54th and MP Diane Abbott was ranked as 100.
The list was created by seeing how people respond to a tweeter, with the focus on whether other people in the capital were responding to, retweeting or engaging with a tweeter.
Explaining the list, the company said: “Our maths also assesses who the people engaging with an influencer are. So a retweet from someone highly influential is worth more than a retweet from an average person. The number of followers does not factor in the weighting.”
Corporate and brand accounts were excluded from the list by PeerIndex, with only individuals who live in London included.
