Thoughts and Prayers by Mothers for Democracy

It’s been 11 years since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where many children and teachers lost their lives to gun violence.

To mark this and to continue to demand gun reform, the group Mothers for Democracy has issued a chilling PSA to highlight that sending thoughts and prayers to victims isn’t doing much to make a change.

The spot lays bare the unthinkable statistic that guns are now the number one killer of children in the US, not drowning, car wrecks or even cancer.

In the disturbing short, viewers see a child fall into a pool. As the mother runs out to save them, we see her abruptly stop at the water’s edge and begin to verbalize her anguish instead of acting to save the young girl.

As time passes, more and more people gather at the house to give their ‘thoughts and prayers’.
